Morris Scott, a former player at Florida A&M and coach at three levels, begins his first season as an assistant coach for Southeastern Louisiana University.
Scott, a 2001 graduate of FAMU who helped the Rattlers to a berth in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships as a player and coach, previously served as the top assistant at Okaloosa-Walton (Fla.) College helping the team to a 23-5 record and a JUCO top 25 national ranking. Scott served as the recruiting coordinator at OWC and was in charge of the Raiders' study hall and gameday operations.
"Very excited about having Morris Scott join our staff," Yarbrough said. "He comes in with some great experiences and was a very good collegiate player and helped his team get to an NCAA Tournament berth. He brings great recruiting ties to the Florida Panhandle, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi which is a vital area for us. He's going to make our staff stronger and he's a great addition."
Scott spent one season in the high school ranks as he served as head coach at Chipley (Fla.) High School where he guided the team to a 19-9 record and the District 2-3A championship. Previously, Scott worked as a graduate assistant at FAMU, where he helped the Rattlers to the 2004 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title and NCAA Championships, where they posted a win over Lehigh in the play-in game before falling to top-ranked Kentucky in the first round.
Morris was the starting point guard for four years at FAMU from 1998-2001, where he was a team captain. He was named to the First-Team Mid-Eastern Atlantic All-Conference team in 1999 as a sophomore and led the Rattlers to the MEAC Championship and the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
He also served as head coach at Trinity Catholic Middle School (2001-2002) and Freeport Middle School (2002-2003). While at FMS, Scott taught 6th-grade math classes.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from FAMU in 2001 and a Master's Degree in Sports and Leisure Management in 2005.
Originally from Fitzgerald, Ga., Scott is single and resides in Hammond.
