Patrick Garvin, in his second stint on the Southeastern coaching staff, begins his third season overall for Southeastern as the Lions' defensive line coach.
Garvin, who replaced Dan Redding as the defensive line coach, spent the 2005 season at Southeastern as defensive line coach before spending the next two seasons in the high school ranks.
In 2008, Garvin helped mold the progress of Devin Boutwell and Steven Honore who were both named to the All-Southland Conference team. The Lions posted the fourth-best total of quarterback sacks (25) in school history with Honore leading the team with six.
Garvin coached defensive ends in his first stint in Hammond, helping the Lions to a 4-6 record in their first season in the Southland Conference. Among the players Garvin coached were former standouts Derrick Mincey, who was a second-team All-SLC selection, honorable mention All-SLC selection Rudy Johnson and Steven Smith, who was named to the Southland Conference All-Academic team.
Garvin spent the past season as head coach and athletic director at Lumberton (Miss.) High School where he led his team to a 6-5 record and a berth in the state playoffs. Garvin spent the 2006 season at Gulfport (Miss.) High School where he was the defensive coordinator before moving to the offensive side last spring.
A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Garvin began his coaching career at Belhaven where he spent two seasons on Roland's staff. Garvin moved to the Division I ranks in 2002 when he took a position at Samford University, where he was tight ends coach in 2002 before coaching the Bulldog running backs in 2003.
Garvin played two seasons at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College before finishing his career at Belhaven, where he was an All Mid-South Conference selection at guard. He was one of seven inducted into the Belhaven College Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
Garvin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Belhaven College in 2000 and a Master’s at William Carey College in 2001.
He is married to the former Elizabeth Shelton of Tupelo, Miss., and they reside in Hammond.
