Lions Football Coaching Staff
Running Backs, Tyronee Williams
Tyronee Williams, a tireless recruiter who has helped produce some of the top runners in Lions’ history, enters his third season at Southeastern coaching running backs and coordinating the Lions’ efforts in the community.
In 2006, Williams served as mentor to All-Southland Conference running back Jay Lucas along with veteran Mario Gilbert, giving Southeastern one of the top 1-2 tandems in the SLC. In 2005, the Lions’ running game was an effective part of the vaunted Air Raid offense.
Although quarterback Trey Willie, who was third nationally in total offense, racked up most of the “rushing” yards, the corps of running backs - Gilbert and Jerald Watson -- managed to combine for over 700 yards from the backfield and 11 rushing TDs despite suffering through numerous nagging injuries.
A former player at Middle Georgia College, Williams joined the Lions’ staff from Mars Hill College where he served as the school’s wide receivers coach.
At Mars Hill, Williams coached punt returners as well as wide receivers and handled personnel substitution on game day. He assisted in the coordination of the passing game and served as the liaison for housing and financial aid while also coordinating work-study and study hall. He also recruited the 2004 SAC Conference Freshman of the Year and coached a three-year all-conference player who had a career average 27.5 yards per catch with 36 career TDs.
Prior to his stint at Mars Hill, Williams served from 1998-2000 as an intern and then promoted to assistant football coach at Middle Georgia coaching outside linebackers.
During the 1998 season, Williams served as a student coach at Mars Hill coaching the defensive scout team and assisting in all aspects of football operations.
Williams played at Middle Georgia College and helped the squad to a 10-2 record in 1995. He played in the Mineral Water Bowl where an interception by Williams sealed the win. Middle Georgia finished the season ranked seventh in the NJCAA poll.
Williams was a three-year letterwinner in football at Harris County High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Mars Hill in 2000 majoring in Physical Education with a minor in business.
Williams and his wife, Tracy, have two children, Jalen (14) and Zoye' (7).
