The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics provides opportunities for men and women to experience the challenge of NCAA Division I athletic competition, while focusing on a baccalaureate degree. The student-athlete's experience is in an environment that provides for personal development and character enhancement. The Department recognizes the importance of equity in all of its programs and appreciates diversity in both student-athletes and staff. While setting as a goal classroom excellence, the Department strives for success in the Southland Conference with post-season NCAA play as its goal. The Department believes that academic success and athletic success are not mutually exclusive.
The Department enhances relationships with campus and regional communities through its participation in outreach programs centered on children and education. These endeavors are to serve as a foundation for a life-long appreciation of good citizenship through community service in student-athletes and staff.
The Department fosters loyalty to the University through its competition and games. The efforts of coaches, athletes, and staff should reflect well on Southeastern Louisiana University. Success in athletics can be a rallying point for students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans in the southeastern Louisiana region. The Department provides an atmosphere where those who attend games can feel a sense of pride, association, and enjoy the experience.
The Department obtains diverse financial resources to support its programs. Integrity and compliance with University, State, and NCAA policies and procedures is a keystone of department operations.
