HAMMOND -
The Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team made a splash in the early signing period, adding one of the top players in the state of Georgia to the program when Columbus, Ga. native Taylor Buckner signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Lions in 2009.

"Taylor has the potential to bring a new dimension of speed and explosiveness to both our offense and defense," head coach Julie Langford said.  "She has good ball control in the back row in addition to elevating well at the net.  Off the court she is a strong student and has a great attitude, and we're very happy to have her."

Buckner, a 5 ft. 6 in. outside hitter earned four letters in volleyball at Columbus High School and captained the Lady Blue Devils in 2007 and 2008.

During her 2007 junior campaign, Buckner led Columbus to a 2007 Georgia AAA State Championship and was named All Bi-City First Team by the Columbus Ledger Enquirer after posting 344 kills, 266 digs and 94 aces.

Buckner followed her breakout junior campaign with a stellar senior season in 2008. The Lady Blue Devils won their fourth consecutive Region 2-AAA Championship, with Buckner posting 511 kills, 296 digs and 83 aces.

Buckner was named to the Georgia Senior All-Star team (made up of the state's top 24 seniors) and the Georgia Volleyball Coaches Association All- State Team (made up of Georgia's top 24 players) in addition to being named All Bi-City Player of the Year by the Ledger Enquirer and a 2008 Wendy's High School Heisman Nominee.

Buckner, who will graduate from Columbus this spring, will be the only Southeastern signee in the early period for the Lady Lions.
