FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana senior Vladimir Paunic was named the
Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year
in an announcement from the league office on Monday.
Paunic, who hails from Novi Sad, Serbia, completed his undergraduate studies
during the spring semester, earning a bachelor's degree in finance with a 4.0
grade point average. Paunic was joined on the SLC All-Academic team by senior
teammate Ondrej Krivka. Krivka, a native of Louny, Czech Republic, finished his
undergraduate studies in three years with a 3.91 GPA in finance. He spent the
final year of his eligibility in the university's MBA program, posting a 4.0
graduate GPA.
Paunic has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District and SLC
All-Academic teams each of the past two seasons. Krivka has earned a spot on
both teams for three consecutive years and was named the SLC Student-Athlete of
the Year in 2006. This season, Paunic and Krivka allowed Southeastern to be one
of six schools nationally to have multiple first team selections on the Men's
At-Large Academic All-District teams. Southeastern was also one of three SLC
schools to have multiple selections on the SLC All-Academic Team.
“This is a tremendous honor for both Vlad and Ondrej, as well as our
program,” Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes commented. “These young men
are students first and it is more important for them to excel in the classroom
than on the court. Both Vlad and Ondrej have committed to performing at a high
level in terms of both education and competition. We are proud they have
received individual recognition for their efforts.”
Paunic finished with a 15-6 singles record this season and earned First Team
All-SLC honors at No. 2 singles for the second time in his career. In his three
seasons with the Lions, Paunic posted a 52-9 singles mark. His career singles
win total ranks 14th in school history.
Krivka posted a 14-7 record at No. 3 singles this spring. He also teamed with
Matthieu Leboucher for a 9-9 mark at No. 1 doubles. During his career, Krivka
earned All-SLC recognition in doubles play three times with three different
partners. His 49 career singles victories ranks 16th on the school's career
list.
Nominated by each institution's sports information director and selected by a
voting contingent made up of SIDs, head coaches and academic or compliance
administrators, all-academic team members must have posted at least a cumulative
3.00 GPA, completed at least one full academic year at the member institution
prior to the season in which the nomination occurs, and competed in a minimum of
50 percent of the sport's contests during the most recently completed season.
