CHOUDRANT – Southeastern Louisiana’s
Cedric Scotto fired a 4-under-par 68 in the opening round to establish a one stroke lead and maintained his advantage with a 2-under 70 in the second round after the first day of the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Classic at Squire Creek Country Club.
As a team, Southeastern posted a two-round total of 573 to finish in a tie for second place with Middle Tennessee. Defending champion UNO finished as the leader after 36 holes at 567.
Scotto, who finished second overall at last month’s Sam Hall Intercollegiate, finished at 138 for the day with UNO’s Ken Looper one stroke back at 139. Kent Bulle of Middle Tennessee and Sebastian Szirmak of UNO were tied for third at 140 with three players, including Southeastern’s
Alvaro Arizabaleta, tied for fifth at 141.
Arizabaleta, playing in his first collegiate tournament, fired rounds of 72 and 69 on the par-72, 7,105-yard course. Fellow newcomer
Horacio Leon was tied for 20th at 145 after carding rounds of 73 and 72.
Tommy Sikes (150) and
Fraser McKenna (155) rounded out the Southeastern contingent.
