CHOUDRANT – Southeastern Louisiana’s Cedric Scotto claimed his third individual title in the past year and the Lions finished strong as a team with a second place showing as the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Classic concluded Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club.

Scotto, the first day leader, fired an even-par 72 to finish at 210 for the tournament and one stroke ahead of UNO’s Ken Looper and Sebastian Szirmak. The individual title was Scotto’s third career title which included first-place finishes last year at the Louisiana Classics and the Southland Conference Championships.

“Cedric really played well against a very talented field,” Southeastern head coach Tim Baldwin said. “I was proud of the way our team played. They had another solid week after getting off to a great start last month. We want to build on that and get ready for another difficult challenge when we compete later this month at the David Toms Invitational.”

Southeastern, which shot a team score of 290 in the final round, finished the 54-hole tournament at 863, nine shots behind first-day leader UNO (854). Middle Tennessee (867), Rice (869) and Sam Houston State (879) rounded out the top five in the 16-team tournament.

The Lions, who claimed the Sam Hall Intercollegiate title last month, were aided by top-10 finishes from newcomers Alvaro Arizabaleta and Horacio Leon. Arizabaleta fired an even-par 72 to finish in a fifth-place tie at 213 while Leon shot a 1-under 71 to finish tied for ninth at 216.

Fraser McKenna, who shot a 75 in the final round, finished at 230 while Tommy Sikes carded an 84 to finish at 234.

Southeastern will return to action on Oct. 25-26 when it competes in the LSU/David Toms Invitational at the University Club in Baton Rouge.
