FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana junior Cedric Scotto has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for September, the league office announced Wednesday.
Scotto, the reigning Southland Conference Golfer of the Year, claimed his second monthly honor in his career after he helped Southeastern claim the 2009 Sam Hall Intercollegiate, which was hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi, Sept. 14-15 at the Hattiesburg Country Club. Scotto, who became the second player in Southland Conference history to be named the league's Golfer and Student-Athlete of the Year, was honored by the conference in February of 2008.
The Albi, France, native, posted rounds of 69, 69 and 66 to finish second overall and one stroke behind Kennesaw State’s Jeff Karlsson. The team victory was the Lions’ 37th tournament title under head coach Tim Baldwin.
There were four Southland golfers who earned honorable mention this month, including Sam Houston State’s Scott Kelly, UT Arlington’s Zack Fischer, Stephen F. Austin’s Kyle Robbins and Texas State’s Michael Carnes.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the golfers of the month, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a golfer must receive votes from at least 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
