SPRINGFIELD – Southeastern Louisiana’s Cedric Scotto fired a 2-under-par 70 in the opening round before coming back with an even-par 72 and the Lions finished in fifth place after the first day of the seventh annual Carter Plantation Intercollegiate on Monday.

Final round action begins at 7:30 a.m. Southeastern, which trails first-day leader Rice by seven strokes, will be paired with Southland Conference rivals Central Arkansas and UT Arlington.

Scotto, who has two top-five finishes in three events this season, finished the day at 142 and tied for third. Freshman Alvaro Arizabaleta posted rounds of 75 and 71 to finish at 146 with Horacio Leon (148), Tommy Sikes (150) and Rhys West (155) rounded out Southeastern’s five-man lineup.

James Taverner, one of three Lions competing as individuals, fired consecutive rounds of 73 to finish tied for 16th overall. Senior Patrick Solberg rebounded from a five-over 77 in the opening round with an even-par 72 in the nightcap while Rasmus Astrand posted rounds of 79 and 80.

UNO opened the day with a tournament single-round record of 280 before shooting 300 in the second round. The Privateers finished tied for second overall with Sun Belt rival Louisiana-Lafayette, one shot behind Rice.

Central Arkansas (582) and Southeastern (586) rounded out the top five with UT Arlington (587), Arkansas State (590), Jacksonville State (594), Sam Houston State (595), Louisiana-Monroe (606) and Stephen F. Austin (606) completing the top 10.
