HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana senior defender
Dana Mayer was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-South Region Team in an announcement from the NSCAA.
Mayer, a biology major with a 4.0 grade point average, was named to the third team and earned her second straight All-South Region Scholar honor, as she was an honorable mention pick a year ago.
Mayer’s academic award was just the latest of many for the Toronto, Ont. native. Last Wednesday, Mayer was named the Capital One Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year in an announcement from the league office. She has also been named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI and Southland Conference All-Academic teams in each of the past three seasons.
Mayer, along with fellow All-Southland Conference defenders
Kyle MacIntosh,
Nicole Brannigan and
Brittany Prieto, helped Southeastern set league single-season records for fewest goals allowed (13) and shutouts (13). A first team All-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana honorable mention selection, Mayer made a seamless transition to the backfield after starring as an outside midfielder in her first three seasons.
To be nominated for consideration, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout their career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution and either be in their second year at the current school if a transfer student.
