EDINBURG, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Texas-Pan American in its Southland Conference opener Wednesday afternoon at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Southeastern fell to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in Southland Conference action. UTPA improved to 3-8 overall and 3-1 in SLC action.
UTPA took the doubles point to take the match. At No. 3, Lion sophomores
Alexis Biarneix and
Jan Bezdecka earned an 8-5 win over UTPA's Andrew Irving and Marcus Dornauf. However, the Broncs won at No. 1 and No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead.
Southeastern picked up a pair of singles victories on Wednesday. At No. 3, Southeastern junior
Damien Cordoba improved to 8-3 in singles play this spring with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 victory over reigning SLC Player of the Week Irving.
At No. 6, Bezdecka (4-5) won his second straight singles match, outlasting Dornauf, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. UTPA was able to avoid a Southeastern win with straight set victories at the other four positions.
The Lions will be back on the road on Saturday, facing Southland Conference rival UTSA at 12 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
