HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana men's tennis team's search for its first Southland Conference victory ended on Wednesday, as the Lions outlasted league foe Nicholls State, 4-3, at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The victory for the Lions (7-8, 1-2 SLC) stopped a four-game losing skid in addition to giving the team its first league win. Nicholls State had its four-match winning streak snapped, falling to 7-7 overall and 0-3 in SLC play.
The two teams split the six singles matches, but Southeastern was able to win the doubles point to earn the victory. Lion sophomores

Damien Cordoba opened doubles play with a convincing 8-1 win at No. 3 over Sami Mouline and Rohan Shetty. The Lions' No. 1 duo of junior

Stepan Siska improved to 5-3 as a team and clinched the doubles point with a 9-7 victory over NSU's Abhaya Prakash and Radu Ionescu.
Nicholls State took a 2-1 lead with a pair of straight set singles victories at the No. 3 and 4 positions. Lion senior
Guillaume Capovin (11-4) tied the match at No. 5, defeating Mouline, 7-5, 6-4.
Southeastern took the lead with a win at No. 6, as sophomore
Jan Bezdecka (6-7) moved past Shetty, 7-5, 6-2. Roussel (5-3) clinched the match at No. 2, defeating Eric Fisher, 7-5, 6-4.
Southeastern will return to Southland Conference play on Friday, hosting Lamar at 2 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
