Southeastern looks to build momentum heading into next week's SLC Tournament
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s tennis team will close out its 2009 regular season on Sunday, facing No. 51 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 1 p.m. neutral-site match on the Lamar campus in Beaumont, Texas.

The Lions (11-8, 3-2 SLC) have already clinched a berth in next week’s Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas. The nationally-ranked Islanders head into the weekend with a 9-8 overall record and 3-0 mark in league play.

Southeastern has won its last five matches heading into Sunday’s season finale. In their most recent outing, the Lions earned their first-ever win over SLC rival UT Arlington, 4-3, in Hammond.

Southeastern is led by senior Guillaume Capovin and his team-best 15-4 singles record. The Lions’ other top singles players are freshman Damien Cordoba and junior Benjamin Enke – both who have a 12-7 singles record.

Capovin has won his last five singles matches, while Enke is sporting a four-match singles win streak. Sophomore Julien Roussel (7-4), freshman Jan Bezdecka (8-8) and sophomore Stepan Siska (8-11) round out the Lion singles draw.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Enke and Siska comprise Southeastern’s top doubles tandem. The Lion duo is 9-3 overall and ranked 72nd nationally, having won their last five doubles outings.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s top singles players are Laurent Montoisy (11-4) and Jose Zunino (10-4). Dmitry Novikov and Mikhail Pavlov (8-7) are the team’s top doubles pairing and currently ranked 64th in the nation.

First round play at next week’s Southland Conference Tournament begins next Friday.
