Lions Extend Win Streak With Shutout Wins Over JSU, ASU

LORMAN, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's tennis team rolled to a pair of dominant 7-0 victories over Jackson State and Alcorn State in non-conference action Tuesday on the Alcorn State campus.

With the wins, the Lions improved to 10-8 overall and extended their current win streak to eight matches. In the two matches, Southeastern won all the singles matches in straight sets and swept all six doubles matches.

Senior Guillaume Capovin improved his team-best singles mark to 14-4 with a pair of singles victories at No. 5. Sophomore Stepan Siska (8-10), sophomore Julien Roussel (7-3), junior Benjamin Enke (11-7) and freshman Damien Cordoba (11-7) also picked up two singles victories each.

In the match with Alcorn State, sophomore Joshua Tracey (1-0) made his 2009 debut, defeating Pushpenda Rajpurhit, 6-1, 6-1. In the win over Jackson State, freshman Jan Bezdecka made short work of Patrick Steel, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, the Lion No. 1 duo of Siska and Enke (8-3) – the nation's 76th-ranked doubles team – as well as the No. 2 team of Bezdecka and Capovin (3-3) both picked up two doubles wins.

In the match with Alcorn State, Cordoba and Roussel (2-1) earned an 8-2 win over Alex Dominguez and Yanik Shearron-Hawkins. Later in the day, Tracey and freshman Daniel Duerr (1-0) moved past Steel and Brandon Nelson, 8-5.

Southeastern will return to action on Friday, hosting SLC rival UT Arlington at 10 a.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
