FRISCO, Texas - Academic honors continue to pile up for Southeastern Louisiana University sophomore catcher Josh Cryer. After being named First Team Academic All-District VI by the College Sports Information Directors of America last May, Cryer picked up his second first team honor of the season as the Southland Conference office named him to the first team SLC All-Academic Team on Tuesday.
"I'm extremely proud of Josh and all the hard work he's put in on the field and in the classroom," head coach Jay Artigues said. "Josh exemplifies what it means to be a true student-athlete."
Cryer, an accounting major from Leesville, has been a straight-A student in his first three semesters at Southeastern and has been elected president of Southeastern's Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Leesvile High School product led Southeastern, and finished the year tied for eighth in the nation, by being hit by a pitch 22 times. Cryer also tied for second on the team in with four home runs and finished fourth on the team in hits (71), doubles (16), RBI (34) and total bases (99).
As the Lions starting catcher, Cryer played in 58 of Southeastern's 59 games and made 57 starts and caught 17 of 61 would-be base stealers (27.9%).
