Southeastern Blanks Jackson State, 7-0

Lady Lions sweep singles, doubles play to improve to 2-3

JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak on Sunday with a 7-0 non-conference win over Jackson State at the JSU Tennis Facility.

The Lady Lions swept all six single and all three doubles matches to improve to 2-3 overall this spring. Jackson State, the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champions, fell to 1-1 on the year.

Southeastern started the match by taking the doubles point. At No. 3, sophomores Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke rolled to their first doubles victory, 8-0, over JSU's Geneva Warren and Valentina Prado. At No. 2, freshmen Nina Schmied and Camille Pilon ran their record to 2-3 with an 8-7 triumph over Angela Rose and Asha Saravana Mohan. Sophomores Audrey Chelini and Morgane Dadot completed the Lady Lion doubles sweep, improving to 3-2 this spring with an 8-4 win over Paulina Vargas and Brittany Guevez.

In singles play, Dadot remained perfect in dual match singles play. The Reunion, France native cruised past Guevez, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 to move to 4-0 this spring. Chelini and Hanke each picked up their third singles victories of the spring with straight set wins at the No. 1 and 6 positions, respectively.

At No. 3, Pilon (2-2) won for the second straight day, defeating Vargas, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4. Schmied snapped a three-match losing streak at No. 2, getting past Warren, 6-1, 6-0, to improve to 2-3. At No. 5, Hagiu picked up the first singles victory of her Lady Lion career, completing the shutout with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Saravana Mohan.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday, opening Southland Conference play with an 11 a.m. match at defending league champion UT Arlington.
