SAN MARCOS, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore
Morgane Dadot and freshman
Camille Pilon each picked up singles victories, but it was not enough as Texas State defeated the Lady Lions, 5-2, in Southland Conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Center.
Southeastern fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play with the loss. The Bobcats improved to 6-2 and 2-0 in Southland action.
“We continue to play hard and played maybe our best match of the spring today,” Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes commented. “But we haven't been able to put all the pieces together for one match. Texas State is a good, well-coached team and they came out ready to play us today.”
Texas State took the early lead by taking the doubles point. The Bobcats won all three doubles matches.
“We have to start matches better,” Hayes commented. “We have a key match on Tuesday (at Southland foe UTSA) and we can't afford to have another slow start.”
Southeastern fell behind 2-0 with a straight set loss at the No. 5 singles position, but Pilon and Dadot came back to tie the match. Pilon, an Orleans, France native, evened her spring single record at 3-3 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gabriela Rojas at No. 3.
At No. 4, Dadot won her team-high fifth singles match of the spring, as the Reunion, France native made short work of Mariana Perez, 6-0, 6-1 to run her singles mark to 5-1. Unfortunately for Southeastern, Texas State came back with straight set victories in the remaining singles matches to secure the match.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on Tuesday, facing UTSA at 10 a.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
