HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University football coach Mike Lucas announced Friday that Gavin Webster, the reigning Louisiana Mr. Football, became the 21st player to sign a National Letter of Intent to play for the Lions in 2010.

Webster, a 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback, was named to the 2009-10 New Orleans Times-Picayune Blue Chip List and was named the Player of the Year by NewOrleans.com, the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club and WGNO-TV.

Listed as the No. 46-ranked prospect in Louisiana by Rivals.com, Webster threw for 2,956 yards and 37 touchdowns as a senior at Lutcher High School, where he was coached by Tim Detillier. Webster also ran for 1,350 yards and 26 TDs and led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and a berth in the Class 4A semifinals.

Webster led LHS to the Class 4A state title as a junior, helping the Bulldogs to a 12-2 record. He threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 23 TDs while rushing for 1,045 yards and 22 scores.
