SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Demarco Stepter scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the first half and UTSA went 7-for-11 from the 3-point range in the first half as it held on and defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 64-57, in a Southland Conference game Saturday at the UTSA Convocation Center.

Terry Fields added 14 points and Melvin Johnson 10 as UTSA (13-8, 3-5 SLC) snapped a five-game losing streak. Southeastern, which had its three-game winning streak snapped, fell to 13-9 overall and 5-4 in league play.

Southeastern trailed 13-12 on a jumper by Jason Marks with 14:22 remaining in the first half before UTSA used a 7-0 run to pull away. Fields scored on a jumper in the lane before Morris Smith IV hit a 3-pointer and Stepter added a bucket for a 20-12 lead.

The Lions got as close as six points in the first half, the last coming on a Marks’ basket with 29 seconds remaining, but Johnson capped a torrid first-half for the Roadrunners when he drained a 30-foot bucket with the shot clock winding down.

Southeastern, which finished 2-for-17 from behind the 3-point line, closed the gap to 49-45 on a layup by Brandon Fortenberry, but UTSA stretched its lead to 55-45 on buckets by Josh Bonney, Devin Gibson and Fields.

Patrick Sullivan led all players with 19 points while Marks added a season-high 13 with six rebounds. Southeastern was held to 23-for-53 from the floor and was outrebounded, 36-26.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it plays host to in-state rival Nicholls State in a 3 p.m. contest at the University Center.
