Lady Lions Fall at UNO, 5-2

Chelini, Dadot pick up singles victories in loss

NEW ORLEANS – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Audrey Chelini and Morgane Dadot each earned singles victories, but UNO won the remainder of the day's matches to take a 5-2 non-conference victory over the Lady Lions Monday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

Southeastern, playing its second of 10 consecutive road matches, fell to 1-2 overall. UNO improved to 2-0 with the victory.

The Lady Privateers took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping doubles play. The bottom two matches were extremely competitive, as Kristina Martic and Sofija Karalic got past Southeastern's No. 2 team of freshmen Camille Pilon and Nina Schmied, 8-6. At No. 3, Amber Garza and Ceara Howey defeated Lady Lion sophomores Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke, 9-7.

At the top of the singles draw, Chelini improved to 2-1 in singles play with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Kozue Matsumoto. UNO countered with straight set wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions.

The remainder of the matches went to three sets. At No. 4, Dadot rallied from a set down to defeat Howey, 4-6, 7-6, 11-9. At No. 3, Pilon fell to Martic, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 and Lady Lion freshman Isabel Brito was outlasted by Karalic at No. 6, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

The Lady Lions will return to action on Sunday, facing Louisiana-Lafayette at 1 p.m. in Lafayette.
