LAKE CHARLES – Southeastern Louisiana's Justin Boudreaux hit three home runs in the opening game and drove in six runs as the Lions defeated McNeese State, 9-2, in the opening game of a Southland Conference doubleheader Sunday at Cowboy Diamond.

In the nightcap, Jace Peterson hit a solo home run with two outs in the ninth inning and Jordan Venable's double in the 10th scored Matt Fontenot as McNeese State rallied for a 4-3 win.

GAME 1
Boudreaux, who went 3-for-5, belted a solo home run in the first inning before adding a three-run blast in the second and a two-run shot in the fourth as Southeastern collected 15 hits in the opener.

Cody Gougler added a solo blast for the Lions in the seventh inning while Jeff Harkensee added a sacrifice fly. Brandon Efferson (5-0) handcuffed McNeese State in eight innings, scattering four hits and fanning three.

Peterson went 3-for-4 to lead the Cowboys at the plate while Josh Cholley and Mace Hebert each drove in runs.

Zach Butler (0-2) took the loss for McNeese State allowing nine hits and seven runs in four innings. Phil Parcell pitched five innings in relief, scattering six hits and allowing two runs for the Cowboys.

GAME 2
Peterson, who extended his hit streak to nine games, helped McNeese State (8-9, 2-4 SLC) rally from a 3-0 deficit when he hit a 2-2 pitch off Chris Franklin (1-1) over the right-center field fence with two outs in the ninth.

Southeastern (18-2, 5-1 SLC) had a chance to take the lead in the top of the 10th inning when Trey Martin singled and moved to second on a wild pitch by Dillon. Philip Freeman then followed with a single through the right side, but Cholley's throw nailed Martin at the plate to preserve the tie.

Franklin retired the first two batters bottom of the frame before walking Fontenot. Venable then hit the first pitch down the left field line and Fontenot scored all the way from first to seal the win for McNeese and snap Southeastern's six-game winning streak.

Freeman went 2-for-4 to lead Southeastern at the plate while Franklin went 1-for-4 with an RBI double that scored Gougler in the second inning.

Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday when it visits Jackson State in a 6 p.m. game. The Lions will host South Alabama on Sunday at 6 p.m.
