Lions In Fourth Place At 2010 Louisiana Classics

Final round action slated for Tuesday at 8 a.m.

LAFAYETTE – The Southeastern Louisiana University golf team posted scores of 287 and 293 on Monday to finish at 580 after 36 holes and in fourth place at the 25th annual Louisiana Classics held at Oakbourne Country Club.

The Lions, ranked No. 48 in the latest GolfStat rankings, posted the second-lowest score in the opening round before falling eight strokes behind first-day leaders Tulsa, Illinois and LSU.

Freshman Philipp Westermann continued his stellar start for Southeastern, firing a 3-under-par 69 in the opening round before a 1-under 71 in the second. Westermann, who has posted a pair of top-five finishes in as many events, finished at 140 for the day and trailed Scott Langley of Illinois by four shots.

Cedric Scotto recorded a 3-under 69 in the opening round on the par 72, 7,141-yard course before carding a 1-over 73 in the nightcap to finish in an eighth-place tie at 142. Freshman Alvaro Arizabaleta (74-72-146) was tied for 24th place while James Taverner (75-77-152) was tied for 55th place and Patrick Solberg (79-82-161) was tied for 81st.

Freshman Rhys West, competing as an individual and not on the Lions' five-man lineup, posted rounds of 74 and 80 to finish tied for 68th.

Southeastern finished seven shots ahead of Houston and UAB while Colorado (588), Southern Miss (588), Texas State (592) and SMU (592) rounded out the top 10.

Final round action is scheduled for Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
