HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women’s tennis team will close out its 2010 home schedule this week, hosting a pair of Southland Conference rivals at the Oak Knoll Country Club.

The Lady Lions (7-9, 3-4 Southland) will welcome Southland Conference co-leader Northwestern State (11-1, 7-0 Southland) to town on Friday. On Saturday, Central Arkansas (2-11, 0-7 Southland) visits Hammond. First serve for both matches is set for 11 a.m.

Southeastern is coming off a split in last weekend’s action. The Lady Lions opened the weekend with a 5-2 win over Southland foe Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, before dropping a 5-2 decision to Sam Houston State on Sunday.

The strength of the Lady Lions this season has been the top half of the singles draw. Sophomore Morgane Dadot has climbed to the No. 2 position for the Lady Lions and has a team-best 13-2 record in dual match singles play. At No. 1, sophomore Audrey Chelini has an impressive 10-6 mark, while freshman Camille Pilon is No. 3 in the Lady Lion lineup and boasts an 8-7 mark.

Doubles play has been up and down for the Lady Lions and has been a strong indicator of Southeastern’s success this season. Southeastern is 6-0 when winning the doubles point and 1-9 when dropping the doubles point. Sophomores Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke leads the team with seven doubles wins. After the doubles lineup was shuffled earlier this season, Chelini and Pilon have teamed for a 2-3 record at No. 1, while Dadot and freshman Nina Schmied have teamed for a 2-4 mark at No. 2.

NSU heads to Hammond as the league’s hottest team, having won their past 10 matches. Junior Bianca Schulz (11-1) and Kathrin Lange (10-1) possess the team’s top singles record. Both players have perfect 7-0 marks in league play, while sophomore Martina Rubesova is 6-0 in Southland action. Rubesova and freshman Andrea Nedorostova are 9-0 in doubles action, where the Lady Demons are a combined 31-2 this spring.

UCA, which plays at Nicholls on Friday, is looking for its first league victory. The Bears are led in singles play by senior Lindsey Short, who has a 4-9 record this spring. Short and sophomore Allison Hartman are a team-best 4-3 in doubles play.

Following this week’s action, will take a break before heading to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a 2 p.m. match at Southern Miss on April 12.
