Lady Lions Close Regular Season With Weekend Regular Season Matches

Southeastern to face Lamar, A&M-Corpus Christi

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will close out its 2010 regular season schedule this weekend, facing a pair of Southland Conference opponents.

The Lady Lions (8-11, 4-5 Southland) will head to Beaumont, Texas on Saturday for a 10 a.m. match at Lamar (12-8, 7-3 Southland). A&M-Corpus Christi (9-10, 4-6 Southland) will head to Beaumont on Sunday at 12 p.m. to meet Southeastern in the regular season finale.

Southeastern can secure a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with a victory in either of its final two matches. The Lady Lions will looking to return to the tournament, scheduled for April 23-25 in Corpus Christi, Texas, after a one-year absence. Southeastern won tournament titles and earned NCAA Tournament berths in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Sophomores Audrey Chelini and Morgane Dadot, as well as freshman Camille Pilon have provided Southeastern with a strong top half of the singles draw. Dadot has a team-best 14-4 overall record and a 7-2 mark versus league competition.

Chelini (12-7, 7-2 Southland) and Pilon (10-8, 4-5 Southland) give the Lady Lions three players with double-digit single victories. In doubles play, sophomores Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke have a team-best 8-10 mark at No. 3.

Lamar has one of the league's top two singles players in Mariayeni Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi. Gutierrez is 19-0 at No. 1, while Harbuzi is 17-1 at No. 2. In doubles play, Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi are 11-7 at No. 1.

A&M-Corpus Christi is led by Doris Kuselj (14-2, 8-1 Southland) and Mirna Cicak (10-6, 4-4 Southland). Kuselj and Bianca Discordia are the Islanders' top doubles duo, boasting a 4-0 record at No. 2.
