Annika Hanke had a singles win on Sunday
Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Annika Hanke earned a straight set singles victory, but the Lady Lions fell to Southland Conference foe A&M-Corpus Christi, 5-1, in the women's tennis regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at the Metropolitan Racquet Club.

The match was originally scheduled to be played on the Lamar campus in Beaumont, Texas. However, inclement weather in southeast Texas forced the match to be moved indoors. With both teams facing travel concerns, the match started with singles play.

The Lady Lions fell to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in league action. Hanke's win provided Southeastern with its only point, as A&M-Corpus Christi (10-10, 5-6 Southland) won the remaining five singles matches in straight sets.

With the loss, Southeastern finishes in a four-way tie for the seventh place with McNeese State, Nicholls State and Stephen F. Austin. After consulting the tiebreaking procedures in the Southland Conference Operations manual, the Lady Lions believe they will be one of the two teams from that quartet that will advance to the Southland Conference Tournament that begins Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas. However, Southeastern still must await the official bracket release from the league office.

Hanke (6-8, 2-5 Southland) picked up her sixth singles win of the spring on Sunday. At No. 6, she defeated Nadia Filmalter, 6-1, 7-6.

In other action, Mirna Cicak beat Lady Lion sophomore Audrey Chelini (12-9, 7-4 Southland), 6-2, 6-3. Southeastern sophomore Morgane Dadot (14-6, 7-4 Southland) was handed a 6-2, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Doris Kuselj at No. 2. At No. 3, A&M-Corpus Christi's Bianca Discordia was too much for freshman Camille Pilon in a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Lady Islanders completed the win with a pair of straight set wins in the bottom of the singles draw. Southeastern freshman Nina Schmied (6-14, 2-8 Southland) finished the regular season with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Adrienne Kovacs at No. 4. At No. 5, freshman Isabel Brito lost to TAMUCC's LeAnne Mascall, 6-4, 7-5.

Updates on Southeastern's postseason schedule will be available at www.LionSports.net upon official release of the Southland Conference Tournament bracket by the league office.
