HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women’s tennis team closed out its 2010 home schedule with a 4-0 Southland Conference victory over Central Arkansas Saturday afternoon at Oak Knoll Country Club.

The match was delayed by three hours due to morning rain in the Hammond area. With UCA (2-13, 0-9 Southland) having a long trip back to Conway, the two coaches agreed to play under tournament rules and suspend the remaining matches when the outcome was decided.

Southeastern (8-10, 4-5 Southland) won the necessary two doubles matches and three singles matches to secure the victory. The Lady Lions were a set up in the other three uncompleted singles matches.

“We played very well today,” Southeastern graduate assistant Jana Simurkova commented. “We came out focused and did what we needed to do to win.”

In doubles play, sophomores Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke defeated UCA’s Kazumi Otani and Kati Anderson, 8-4, at No. 3 to give Southeastern the early advantage. The Lady Lions clinched the doubles point at No. 1, as sophomore Audrey Chelini and freshman Camille Pilon earned an 8-4 win over Petra Keilova and Lisa Mainz.

Chelini gave Southeastern a 2-0 lead in singles play with her fifth consecutive singles victory. The Bordeaux, France product rolled past Keilova, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1, improving to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in league action.

Moments later, sophomore Morgane Dadot gave the Lady Lions a 3-0 edge with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mainz at No. 2. The win ran the Reunion, France native’s team-best singles record to 14-3 and ran her league mark to 7-2.

Pilon closed out the match at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Otani. The clinching victory gave the newcomer from Orleans, France a 9-8 dual match singles tally in her first season with the program.

Southeastern will take next week off, before heading to Southern Miss for a 2 p.m. match on April 12 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
