FRISCO, Texas – After continuing a torrid stretch at the plate, Southeastern Louisiana junior second baseman Katie Duhe was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week in an announcement from the league office on Monday.

Duhe, a Lutcher native, is the first Lady Lion to earn Southland weekly honors this season. McNeese State pitcher Meagan Bond took open Pitcher of the Week honors.

Duhe hit .727 for the week with a home run, three runs batted in and three runs scored. In Saturday’s 12-11 win at McNeese State, Duhe hit for the cycle and finished 4-for-4 with three RBI. Hitting safely in all four games, she extended her hitting streak to 11 games – three off the school-record 14-game hitting streak of former Lady Lion and current Southeastern assistant coach Karin Smith Gadberry.

A career .328 hitter, Duhe’s numbers were down earlier in the year, but her current tear has her approaching her success in previous seasons. During her hitting streak, she has hit .571 with two home runs and eight RBI. The hot stretch has pushed her to the team lead in batting average (.325), on-base percentage (.381), slugging percentage (.509) and RBI (20).

Duhe and the Lady Lions will close the regular season this weekend, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game Southland Conference series at North Oak Park. The set opens with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, before closing with a 12 p.m. contest on Sunday. Seniors Amber Freeman, Catherine Gunther, Chelsea Takacs and Jenna Yoder will be honored prior to Sunday’s first pitch and live stats for the series will be available at www.LionSports.net.
