HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University golfer
Philipp Westermann continued on a successful postseason on Monday when he was named to the 2010 Golfweek Men's All-America team.
Westermann, from Pinneburg, Germany, was named to the Honorable Mention squad and was one of five players selected to the Golfweek Freshman All-America team. The national honors were the third this season for Westermann who was also selected to the PING All-Central Region team.
“This is a great honor for Philipp and very well deserved,” Southeastern head coach
Tim Baldwin said. “It's pretty special to be named as one of the top freshmen on the All-America team. He had a great showing at the British Amateur and is about to represent Germany in the European Championships in a couple of weeks. He had a great year for us and he's looking forward to building on that for us next season.”
The freshman, who enrolled in school in January and helped lead Southeastern to the Southland Conference championship, paced the Lions in scoring average (71.92) in eight events during the spring with one win and five top-five finishes.
Ranked No. 36 in the GolfStat Cup standings, Westermann was named the Freshman of the Year by the Southland Conference after finishing in a fourth-place tie at the Southland Conference Championships.
