Lions Wrap Up Two-A-Days; Visit Buras On Sunday

HAMMOND –
The Southeastern Louisiana University football team wrapped up two-a-day practices with an abbreviated one-hour workout Monday evening in Strawberry Stadium.

With the threat of high temperatures and heat indices, Southeastern head coach Mike Lucas announced the team moved its scheduled 3:30 p.m. workout to 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Returning to the field for the first time since Saturday, the Lions worked out in full gear in a 6 a.m. practice before taking care of last minute business for classes which start on Wednesday. In the evening practice, Southeastern worked out in shells before cutting practice short due to lightning.

The Lions worked on all phases during the evening workout with Tyler Beatty and B.J. Young taking the majority of snaps. Beatty directed a long drive with the No. 1 offense as he hit Reshad Douglas on a 5-yard scoring pass. Young added a scoring pass to Luis Sobalvarro while freshmen kickers Seth Sebastian and Jake Saltalamacchia each converted on their field goal attempts.

LIONS ATTEND SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES IN BURAS
Southeastern, which has dedicated its season to the “Children of the Gulf,” visited Buras on Sunday attending church services in the morning before having lunch and holding an autograph session for the local youth.

Head coach Mike Lucas, his staff and the Lions attended services with Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser at Trinity United Methodist Church before departing for lunch and an autograph session at nearby Buras Auditorium. The Lions were able to look photos depicting the damage to the marshes by the BP oil spill.

Over 60 players on the 2010 Southeastern roster, including three from Plaquemines Parish (Devin Boutwell of Buras, David Durden of Port Sulphur, and Raphael Garrison of Belle Chasse) come from the Gulf Coast region.

During the season, the football team will be selling “Children of the Gulf” T-Shirts for $10 with all proceeds going to a charity in Plaquemines Parish. To order or for more information, contact the Southeastern Athletic Department at (985) 549-2395.
