HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University head football coach Mike Lucas announced the addition of three transfers, including two from Division I FBS schools, to the Lions' 2010 roster.
Joining the Lions after enrolling in school are offensive lineman
R.J. Brown, wide receiver
Ron Walker and defensive back
Jerome Wright. All three players are immediately eligible to play for Southeastern, members of the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS)
Brown, a 6-foot-3, 305-pounder, did not play in 2009 after being redshirted at Southern Miss. As a junior, Brown saw action in nine games for the Golden Eagles where worked in a backup role and played on special teams. Brown, who earned his degree from USM, has one year of eligibility remaining and is currently enrolled in Southeastern's Graduate Program.
Walker, a former Archbishop Shaw product, played his freshman season at Northern Illinois before transferring to Southeastern. Walker, made one appearance for NIU in 2009 as a redshirt freshman, has three years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-1, 190-pound receiver helped Shaw to two appearances in the Louisiana Class 4A State Championship game while recording 49 catches for over 1,200 yards in his final two seasons. Walker caught 27 passes for 700 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Eagles as a senior after recording 22 receptions for over 500 yards as a junior.
Wright, a 5-9, 170-pound sophomore, played in nine games as a freshman at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he recorded 38 tackles and two interceptions. He had a season-high six tackles in games against East Mississippi Community College and Hinds Community College and picked off passes against Pearl River Community College and East Central (Miss.) Community College.
A three-year letterwinner at Gulfport High, Wright averaged 16.5 yards per catch on 20 receptions while recording 24 tackles with an interception as a senior.
Southeastern will open its season on Sept. 2 against Tulane in the Louisiana Superdome. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Lions will open their home schedule on Sept. 11 against Ohio Valley Conference member UT Martin in a 6 p.m. contest at Strawberry Stadium.
