Yarborough, Connors Each Earn More Preseason All-America Honors

Duo named to College Sporting News FCS Preseason All-America team

Simmie Yarborough was picked as a Preseason First-Team All-Ameirca by the College Sporting News
HAMMOND – With Southeastern Louisiana's football opener against Tulane just over a week away, two players were named Tuesday as 2010 FCS Preseason All-Americans by the College Sporting News.

Wide receiver Simmie Yarborough and defensive back Tommy Connors were part of a group of nine Southland Conference student-athletes named to the 99-man team. All 14 FCS conference were represented as players from 58 schools were selected to the team.

Yarborough, a junior from Brookhaven, Miss., was one of three receivers named to the first-team joining Tysson Poots of Southern Utah and Appalachian State's Brian Quick. Yarborough caught 57 passes for 803 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2009 despite missing two games to injury.

Named as one of the top 10 FCS receivers by the Sports Network, Yarborough enters the 2010 season sixth in school history in receptions (108), seventh in receiving yards (1,293) and second in touchdowns (18).

Connors, a senior from Marrero, La., was a third-team selection despite missing nearly the entire 2009 season with an injury. Connors, a three-time All-Southland Conference performer and 2008 All-American, led the Lions and was third in the league with 108 tackles in 2008.

The hard-hitting safety led the league with four interceptions and enters his final season among the career leaders in tackles (257, 6th) and solo tackles (189, 4th).

Appalachian State led all schools with six players selected followed by Richmond, Southern Illinois and defending FCS national champion Villanova with four each.

Southeastern will open its season on Sept. 2 against Tulane in the Louisiana Superdome. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
