HAMMOND – After helping the Southeastern Louisiana women’s soccer team to its first 3-0 start since 2007, Lady Lion juniors Lacey Bockhaus and Kyle MacIntosh were named Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week in an announcement from the league office on Tuesday.

For the first time since 2003, Southeastern has opened the season with three consecutive shutouts thanks in large part to the efforts of MacIntosh and Bockhaus. MacIntosh, a St. Catharines, Ont. native, was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, while Bockhaus, who hails from San Leandro, Calif., earned league Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the third time as a Lady Lion. McNeese State freshman midfielder Johnna Germany was selected as Southland Offensive Player of the Week.

Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle was pleased with the honors for two of the squad’s Preseason First Team All-Southland choices.

“This is a very well deserved honor for both Kyle and Lacey,” Hornbuckle said. “Kyle continues to be one of our leaders on the back line with her ability to organize and execute. Lacey’s presence and talents give us an edge in goal. Her attributes provide such a boost to team morale and support in knowing she anchors our defense.”

After missing the opening match of the season, MacIntosh returned to action to help Southeastern to a pair of shutout victories. Southeastern opened the trip with a 1-0 win at Troy, before blanking Alabama State 5-0 on Sunday.

Bockhaus, who set a single-season league record for shutouts last season, posted two shutouts in net, playing all 180 minutes in goal on the road trip. With three shutouts this season, Bockhaus has 24 shutouts in her career, matching the school record held by former Lady Lion Nicole Helmig, who played in Hammond from 2000-03. Bockhaus needs two shutouts to become the Southland’s career leader.

Southeastern will look to open the season 4-0 for the third time in school history when it return to action on Sunday. The Lady Lions host Southern at 4 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
