FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana University's
Tommy Connors was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office on Monday.
Connors, a senior from Marrero, returned to the gridiron in Southeastern's 27-21 loss to Tulane after missing the final nine games with a thumb injury. The 2008 All-American totaled seven tackles with four solo stops against the Green Wave.
His sack and forced fumble in the second quarter stopped a Tulane drive at the Southeastern 11 and kept the Lions to within a 17-7 deficit at halftime.
The weekly award was the fourth for Connors in his career who twice earned notice in 2008.
Southeastern (0-1) will open its home schedule on Saturday when it faces UT Martin (0-1) in a 6 p.m. contest at Strawberry Stadium. Tickets are available by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466 or on-line at www.LionSports.net.
