Stellar Pitching, Defense Helps Green Avert Sweep

Gold Take First Two Games For Series Victory

Sophomore Britt Gautreaux was 2-for-2 and drove in the winning run for the Green team.
HAMMOND – A bloop double down the left-field line and a single into center field Saturday provided all the offense the Green team needed for a 1-0 win in the final game of Southeastern's Fall World Series.

Junior transfer Harry Slade dropped a double down the left-field line leading off the bottom of the sixth inning and moved to third on a ground out. Green first baseman Britt Gautreaux followed with a solid single to center field for the 1-0 lead.

The Gold team won the first two game of the series, 2-1 Wednesday and 6-1 Thursday, but failed to push a run across against Green pitching. A pair of double plays by Green ended a pair of scoring chances and three Gold runners were picked off.

Freshman starting pitcher Andro Cutura, aided by the pair of double plays, tossed five shutout innings. Reliever Kyle Bracey picked up the win in relief and Layton Tromba retired the final two batters of the seven-inning game for the save.

Slade and Gautreaux each provided two hits for the Green team. Jacob Fisher, Ryan Hoffman and Adam Michel each produced singles for the Gold squad.

Southeastern opens the 2012 season Feb. 17 at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field against Indiana State.
