HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Braeden Riley went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs and Sam Houston State scored seven runs in the first three innings to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 10-4, in a Southland Conference game Saturday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium.
Ryan Mooney added three hits and drove in a run while Chris Andreas and Daniel Nottebart drove in two runs each as SHSU (29-16, 13-10 SLC) scored four runs in the first, two in the second and one in the third.
The series concludes on Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
SHSU reached on five consecutive singles in the first inning with Riley, John Hale and Nottebart each driving in runs and Kevin Miller driving in a run on a fielder's choice. The Bearkats took a 6-0 lead in the second inning when Riley hit a two-out single up the middle off Southeastern starter
Tyler Watkins (7-2) to drive Luke Plucheck and Greg Olson.

Cass Hargis hit a two-out, two-run single.
A two-run double in the sixth inning by Andreas gave SHSU a 9-3 lead and Nottebart added a leadoff home run in the seventh to give the Bearkats a 10-3 cushion.
Brent Powers (4-3) earned the win for SHSU after pitching 5.1 innings in relief. The southpaw scattered six hits and fanned five batters while allowing one run. Plucheck added three hits for the Bearkats, who collected 15 hits in the game and moved into a third-place tie with Southeastern and UT Arlington in the league standings.
Brock Hebert led Southeastern at the plate going 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Harkensee, Gougler and
Jonathan Pace had two hits each for the Lions with
Michael Rutland driving in a run.
Watkins took the loss for Southeastern after allowing six runs on seven hits. Redshirt freshman
Steven Poche tossed a season-high four innings for Southeastern with four strikeouts.
