HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Behind junior forward Britni Martin and sophomore forward Sequeena Thomas, Sam Houston State pulled away for a 67-46 win over Southeastern Louisiana in Southland Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Southeastern (7-14, 2-6 Southland) shot just 24.2 percent (16-for-66) from the floor, including just 21.9 percent from the floor in the second half. The Bearkats (11-9, 6-3 Southland) broke open a close game by outscoring the Lady Lions, 41-23, in the second half.

Kelli Jenkins led the Lady Lions in every category, finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Sophomore forward
Aja Gibson chipped in with 13 points and six boards for Southeastern.
Thomas led the way for the Bearkats, finishing with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Martin added 19 points, while freshman forward Angela Beadle pulled down 13 rebounds and the Bearkats finished with a 51-38 rebounding advantage.
Southeastern hung tight through the first five minutes of the second half, as a layup by Jenkins made it 34-27 with 15:13. However, on the next possession, Thomas hit a three as the shot clock expired to put Sam Houston State up by 10.
Thomas' three was a momentum changer and ignited an 8-0 Bearkat run, as Martin's fifth three of the game capped the rally and put the Bearkats up, 42-27 with 13:02 left. The Sam Houston State lead would grow to as many as 23 down the stretch, as Southeastern never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Sam Houston State held a narrow 26-23 halftime lead after an opening period that saw five lead changes. Martin paced the Bearkats to the lead with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Gibson led Southeastern with nine in the opening half.
The Lady Lions were able to convert 10 Bearkat turnovers into nine points in the first half. Jenkins led the way with three steals.
Southeastern will return home on Wednesday, hosting UTSA at 7 p.m. in the University Center. Freshman guard
