SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana scored three runs in the first-three innings Saturday, but UTSA kept pace before pulling away for a  9-3 Southland Conference win over the Lions.

UTSA (17-22, 7-13 Southland) scored in five of the first-six innings against three different Lion pitchers.

Michael Kraft (7-3) earned the win despite a rough start. Jordan Hymel (5-3) suffered the loss for Southeastern.

The Lions scored a pair of first-inning runs. Harry Slade led off the game with a single to left-center field and Michael Rutland sacrificed him to second base. Brock Hebert, Jonathan Pace and Cody Gougler then delivered three-consecutive doubles. Slade and Pace scored. Hebert was thrown out attempting to steal third.

It was a short-lived lead as UTSA center fielder Daniel Rockett delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the first to tie the game.

Southeastern (27-13, 12-8 Southland) regained the lead in the third. Rutland single to lead off the inning, but was a erased on a fielder's choice by Hebert. Pace singled and Hebert went first to third. Gougler laid down a bunt, but Kraft threw home in time to get Hebert at the plate. Ladd Rhodes followed with a single to left, driving in Pace for a 3-2 lead.

UTSA answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning, tying the game once again.

The scoring would continue for the Roadrunners as UTSA added three runs in the fourth to chase Hymel from the game. Two more runs followed in the fifth and the Roadrunners tacked on a single run in the sixth.

With the series even at a game apiece, the finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Roadrunner Field.

Junior left-hander Buck Bernard (2-0, 1.80)  heads to the hill for the Lions in the rubber match and will be opposed by UTSA's Justin Anderson (2-2, 7.99).
