HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team was on the wrong end of a pair of pitcher's duels in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Sam Houston State in Southland Conference softball action Saturday afternoon at the Bearkat Softball Complex.

Southeastern fell to 10-31 overall and 2-12 in Southland Conference play. Sam Houston State improved to 21-17 and 10-4 in league action.

In the opener, SHSU senior pitcher Tomi Garrison (8-8) threw a complete-game shutout, holding the Lady Lions to four hits in a 3-0 victory. Game One – Sam Houston State 3, Southeastern Louisiana 0
Sam Houston State took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning off Southeastern junior pitcher Kenna Terry (3-14). With two outs, junior catcher Ashley Isbell launched a home run over the right centerfield fence to give the Bearkats a 1-0 lead.

Terry pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the third inning to keep the SHSU lead at one. Infield singles by sophomore second baseman Alyssa Coggins and junior centerfielder Tori Benavidez put runners on with one out, but Terry retired the next two to keep the lead at 1-0.

The Bearkats padded their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two on and one out, senior right fielder Erin Burford doubled off the left field fence to put SHSU up, 2-0.

Southeastern mounted its first threat against Garrison in the top of the fifth inning. Elswick doubled into the left field corner, but Garrison then retired senior third baseman Lauren Coniglio and junior outfielder Katie Doyle to keep the Lady Lions off the board.

SHSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. An RBI single by Coggins with two outs put the Bearkats up, 3-0.

Van Hook led off the top of the seventh with a single, but Garrison retired the next three Lady Lions to secure the shutout.

Game Two – Sam Houston State 1, Southeastern Louisiana 0
Honeycutt and Lancaster matched zeroes with neither team threatening until the top of the sixth inning. Honeycutt hit Burford to lead off the inning and then issued a walk to freshman pinch hitter Jessica Slater to put a pair of runners on and bring Terry in from the bullpen.

After giving up a one-out single to junior pinch hitter Kim Damian to load the bases, Terry got sophomore shortstop Sarah Allison to fly out to right, but it was deep enough for sophomore pinch runner Amy Pelton to score the go-ahead run.

In the seventh, senior catcher Meghan Gomez hit a line shot to straight away center, but Benavidez snatched it before it could clear the fence. One batter later, Lancaster forced Van Hook to ground out to complete the no-hitter.
