Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Southeastern Louisiana broke-up Colin Bear's no-hit bid in the sixth inning Sunday, and scored three runs in the inning, on its way to claiming a 4-2 Southland Conference win over Northwestern State.

Northwestern State (16-26, 11-13 Southland) left-hander Colin Bear carried a perfect game into the fifth inning, until Cody Gougler drew a one out walk. The Lions ended the no-hit bid an inning later, as Michael Rutland led off the sixth with a single up the middle.

Southeastern (30-15, 15-9 Southland) right fielder Alex Marse sacrificed Rutland to second base. Harry Slade laced a single past the shortstop to put runners on the corners.
Ben Hernandez laid down a sacrifice bunt back to the mound. Bear threw home, but Rutland jarred the ball loose sliding in to score.

Brock Hebert chopped a single over the head of the first baseman to score Slade.
Hernandez, going first-to-third, drew a throw from the right fielder, but it kicked away from the third baseman. Hernandez scored and Hebert took second.

The Lions added a run in the eighth. Slade and Hernandez each singled to chase reliever Carson Goldsmith from the game. Hebert laid down a sac bunt off the new Demon pitcher, Joe Scanio. Jonathan Pace smashed a grounder to short. The throw from Mitch  Huckabay arrived just ahead of Pace, but Slade scored to give Southeastern a 4-2 lead.

Buck Bernard started for the Lions and yielded to Matt Pittari (1-0) with runners at second and third, and two outs in the fifth. Pittari got Bear, the cleanup hitter, to fly out to center.

Jason Greenleaf tossed three shutout innings and Stefan Lopez pitched the ninth to earn his 16th save of the season.

Lopez needs one save to tie the Southland Conference career record (27).

Jay Artigues is now second on Southeastern's all-time win list (231) and the Lions have compiled at least 30 wins for the sixth-consecutive season.
