MADISON, Miss. – Juniors
Philipp Westermann and
Rhys West each recorded a 1-under-par 71 and the Southeastern Louisiana University golf team finished in a sixth-place tie as the rain-shortened BancorpSouth Intercollegiate concluded Tuesday at Reunion Golf and Country Club.
Westermann, who claimed medalist honors in last year's event, finished in a group of four golfers in a tie for sixth-place at 3-under-141, five strokes behind individual champion Jonathan Fly of Memphis.
West, who recorded an even-par 72 on Monday, finished in a group of six golfers tied for 14th place at 1-under 143 for the 36-hole event. The freshmen tandem of
Grady Brame (72-73-145) and
Baptiste Courtachon (70-75-145) finished in a tie for 25th place while freshman
Santiago Mejia (74-80-154) finished tied for 69th.
First-day leader Wichita State recorded a team score of 566 to claim the team championship holding off Central Arkansas, who recorded a low round of 285 to finish one stroke back at 567. UCF (571), UAB (571) and Memphis (571) were tied for third with Middle Tennessee (574), Southeastern (574), UMKC (580), host Ole Miss (582) and Mississippi State (582) rounding out the top-10 in the 16-team field.
Southeastern will return to action on Monday when it travels to Houston, Texas to compete in The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate at The Woodlands Country Club. The event will be the final tuneup for the Lions before competing in the Southland Conference Championships at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas.
