This Week in Southeastern Athletics - April 9-15, 2012

Baseball hosts Alabama, Softball hosts LSU on Wednesday

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball and softball teams will each host an SEC opponent on Wednesday, before returning home over the weekend to host Southland Conference series during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lions (22-11, 8-7 Southland) will open the week on Wednesday, hosting Alabama at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Champagne Beverage will be raffling off prizes throughout Wednesday's game.
 
Southeastern will then welcome Southland foe Texas State to town for a three-game series. The series opens with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday and continues on Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday's series finale is set for 1 p.m. All of this week's baseball games will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net, where live stats will be available.
 
The Lady Lion softball team (7-28, 1-9 Southland) has four games on tap this week, beginning with a 4 p.m. contest on Monday at Southern. On Wednesday, Southeastern returns home to host LSU at 6 p.m. at North Oak Park.
 
UTSA then visits for a two-game series, starting with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday and concluding with Saturday's 12 p.m. game. Live stats for Wednesday's game and the UTSA series will be available at www.LionSports.net. Fans can follow all of this week's softball action via Twitter at www.twitter.com/sluathletics.
 
The Greek Challenge continues this week, which covers all baseball and softball home games through April 28. The Greek organization with the highest attendance for those games will earn $1,000 and use of the party patio at the Southeastern home football game of its choice. Second place will receive $500 and the aforementioned party patio use, while the third place organization earns $250.
 
The men's golf team will participate in its final preparation for the Southland Conference Championships this week. The Lions will be in The Woodlands, Texas on Monday and Tuesday to compete in The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate.
 
The women's tennis team (8-9, 1-7 Southland) has four matches on the schedule this week, starting with a 1 p.m. league match at UTSA on Monday. Southeastern closes out its Texas trip on Tuesday, facing Prairie View at 1 p.m. On Saturday, Southeastern returns home to host Southland foe Northwestern State at 11 a.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. The Lions close out their home and league schedules on Sunday, facing Central Arkansas at 11 a.m.
 
The men's and women's track and field teams will continue their outdoor season this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will be in Mobile, Ala. to compete in the South Alabama Invitational, which runs Friday through Saturday.
