Lady Lions Travel to Southern

Teams meet on Monday at 4 p.m.

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team returns to action on Monday, traveling to face Southern in a 4 p.m. contest in Baton Rouge.
 
The game between the Lady Lions (7-28) and host Lady Jaguars (6-22) is a makeup of a March 21 game that was rained out. Fans can follow Monday's action via Twitter at www.twitter.com/sluathletics.
 
Southeastern will be looking to bounce back after being swept at Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Lady Lion fell 4-0 on Friday, while the Islanders rallied for a 3-1 win on Saturday.
 
Southeastern is hitting .229 as a team, led by sophomore second baseman Megan McCollum's .309 batting average. Junior outfielder Michelle Duhe (.277) and junior first baseman Ariell Van Hook (.270) are the other top hitters for average for the Lady Lions.
 
Senior catcher Meghan Gomez leads the team with eight home runs and 19 RBI. Sophomore shortstop Kayla Elswick (2 HR, 10 RBI), Van Hook (3 HR) and McCollum (11 RBI) are the other top power threats for the Lady Lions.
 
The Lady Lions have a 4.96 team earned run average. Junior Kati Morse (2-4, 3.28 ERA), junior Kenna Terry (2-12, 4.75 ERA), senior Vicki Honeycutt (2-3, 4.77 ERA) and sophomore Jessie Browne (1-9, 7.26 ERA) have all seen action in the circle for Southeastern.
 
The Lady Lion pitching staff will be facing a Southern team that is hitting .250 as a team. Junior shortstop Shawntall Steamer leads the team with a .353 batting average, followed by senior second baseman Audrey Phillips (.342) and sophomore catcher Harley Roller (.314).
 
Southern boasts a 5.85 team earned run average. Freshman Kendyl Stevenson (2-6, 4.96 ERA), freshman Carla Arismendi (2-5, 6.38 ERA) and sophomore Gabrielle McDaniel (1-11, 7.04 ERA) have shared time in the circle for the Lady Jaguars.
 
Southeastern is 26-8 all-time versus Southern. The Lady Lions have lost twice this season to the Lady Jaguars, 12-4, and 8-6.
