Brame, West Lead Lions At NCAA Stanford Regional

STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Grady Brame and junior Rhys West each fired an even-par 70 and the Southeastern Louisiana University golf team fired a team score of 289 to fall to 13th place after the second day of the NCAA Stanford Regional on Friday at the Stanford Golf Course.

Final round action in the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9:30 a.m. CDT. Southeastern, which is making its sixth berth to the NCAA Regionals, will tee off beginning at 11:20 a.m. Live statistics will be available at www.LionSports.net.

Brame, who fired a 1-under-par 69 on Thursday, continued his solid play for the Lions. The Hammond native and former St. Thomas Aquinas product overcame a sluggish start on the back nine, that included a double bogey at No. 12 and a bogey on No. 16, to record three birdies on the front nine to finish tied for 24th overall at 1-under 139.

West bounced back after shooting a 6-over 76 on Thursday as carded an even-par 35 on the back nine before shooting an identical score on the front. West, who finished fifth overall in the NCAA Ocala Regional last season, was at 6-over 146 after the first two rounds.

Philipp Westermann carded a 4-over 74 for the Lions to finish at 147 after the first two rounds and was joined by freshman Baptiste Courtachon, who shot a 77 after posting an even-par 70 on Thursday.

Freshman Santiago Mejia rounded out the Lions' five-man lineup as he posted an identical 5-over 75 to finish at 150 after two rounds.

Top-seeded and No. 2-ranked California surged to the overall lead after posting a team score of 270 to finish at 546. Cal finished one shot ahead of No. 14-ranked San Diego State, which used a 15-under 265 to finish one shot back at 547 overall. Host Stanford (552) and UAB (552) were tied for third in the team standings with Tennessee (553) rounding out the top five.

First-day leader San Francisco (554) was sixth followed by Oregon State (556), UCF (557), Wichita State (563), LSU (565), San Jose State (567), UC Davis (573) and Southeastern (576).

Michael Kim of Cal fired a 6-under 64 to move into the overall lead at 131 – one stroke ahead of Josh Anderson of Pepperdine and Zachary Blair of BYU.
