Balanced Tulane Attack Sends Southeastern to Third Straight Loss

Lady Lions drop to 1-3 despite Pool's third double-double

Box Score

NEW ORLEANS – Six Tulane players scored in double figures as they defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 80-52, in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday night at Devlin Fieldhouse.

Southeastern fell to 1-3 overall with the loss, falling in large part due to a 51-31 Green Wave rebounding advantage. Tulane improved to 3-0 overall after shooting 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from behind the arc.

The Lady Lions were led by sophomore forward Nanna Pool. The Magnolia, Miss. native posted her third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior forward Aja Gibson added 11 points to join Pool in double figures, while junior guard Elizabeth Styles finished with five assists and four steals.

Junior forward Tiffany Dale posted a game-high 16 points to lead a balanced Tulane attack, while junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Jamie Kaplan narrowly missed a double-double of her own with 13 points and nine assists. Freshman guard Leslie Vorpahl (12 points), sophomore center Chinwe Duru (11 points) and freshman guard Courtnie Latham (11 points) also reached double-digits for the Green Wave.

Gibson led Southeastern with six points in the first half, but Tulane jumped out to a 13-0 lead to open the contest. The Lady Lions closed the lead to as few as seven points during the opening period, but could not overcome a 32-13 rebounding advantage by the Green Wave and went into the halftime break down by 15, 39-24.

Tulane put the game away in the opening minutes of the second half, scoring the first six points of the half to stretch the lead to 21. Southeastern would get no closer than 16 the rest of the way, while Tulane was able to build the lead to as many as 32 in the final period. Southeastern could've further cut into the final margin, but went cold from the charity stripe after the break, making just five of 15 free throw attempts.

Southeastern will be back in action on Friday, traveling to Ole Miss for a 5 p.m. contest in Oxford, Miss.
