Southeastern Moves to 6-0 With 6-1 Victory Over William Carey in Home Opener

HAMMOND – The undefeated Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team opened its 2013 home schedule with a convincing 6-1 victory over William Carey Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
Southeastern (6-0) won five of six singles matches after taking the doubles point to open the match. William Carey fell to 1-3 overall with the loss.
 
“We were very pleased to play on our home court and were happy to come away with a victory against a tough William Carey team,” Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes commented. “We're especially thankful to the fans that came out to support us and we hope to continue to watch us compete.”
 
Southeastern has yet to lose a doubles match this spring and posted two more wins on Saturday. At No. 2, junior Valya Rusakova and freshman Nastya Tokareva (2-0) picked up an 8-3 win over Malin Collin and Anastasiya Zvyagintevsa. Sophomore Adriana Castillo and freshman Renee Villarreal ran their team-best doubles mark to 3-0 with an 8-3 win over Julia Angerman and Sarah-Maria Spruch on the No. 3 court.
 
Three Lion freshmen remained undefeated in dual match singles play. Tokareva improved to 6-0 at No. 2, cruising past Maja Vuzem, 6-3, 6-2. Sarah Kriem (4-0) battled past Angerman on the No. 4 court, earning a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Zvyagintesva was no match for Villarreal (4-0) at No. 5, falling 6-0, 6-1.
 
Rusakova and freshman Reginka Nychytailova both ran their individual singles winning streaks to four matches on Saturday. Nychytailova (5-1) shook off a tough first set for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 win over Carola Orna on the No. 1 court. At No. 3, Rusakova (5-1) made short work of Spruch in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
 
Southeastern will take some time off before hosting Southern Miss at 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
