BATON ROUGE – The Southeastern Louisiana tennis team will look to protect its unbeaten record on Wednesday, when it travels to face Southern at 1 p.m. at University Courts.
The Lions (3-0) opened the season with road victories over Louisiana Tech, Jackson State and Grambling last week. Southern (0-1) enters the match looking for its first victory of the spring after dropping a 7-0 decision to LSU in the season opener.
Southeastern has posted a combined 15-2 mark in singles play and features six players with unblemished dual match singles marks. Freshman
Nastya Tokareva leads the team with a 3-0 record on the No. 2 court, while freshman
Renee Villarreal and senior
Isabel Brito are both 2-0 thus far this spring.
A trio of Lions – sophomore
Morgane Charpenne, sophomore
Adriana Castillo and freshman
Sarah Kriem – each have 1-0 records this spring. Freshman
Reginka Nychytailova and junior
Valya Rusakova round out the Southeastern singles lineup and both are 2-1 in dual match play.
Southeastern is 4-0 in doubles play this season. Villarreal and Castillo are 2-0 as a team to lead the Lions. The pairing of Tokareva and Rusakova, as well as the team of Nychytailova and Kriem are both 1-0 in the young season.
Last season, Southern pushed the Lions to the limit before Southeastern earned a 4-3 victory in Baton Rouge. Castillo and Brito each had three-set singles victories in the win for Southeastern.
Following Wednesday's match, Southeastern will conclude its season-opening five-match road swing with a 1 p.m. match versus Alcorn State on Saturday in Lorman, Miss.
