LORMAN, Miss. – The undefeated Southeastern Louisiana tennis team closed out its season-opening five-match road swing with a dominant 7-0 win over Alcorn State Saturday afternoon at the ASU Tennis Complex.
The Lions (5-0) took the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts, then completed the shutout by sweeping through singles play and taking five of the six matches in straight sets. Alcorn State dropped to 0-3 overall with the loss.
“We continue to get better each time we step on the court,” Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said of his young team after the victory. “We have a week until our next match, so we have some time to heal up and hopefully get stronger.”
Southeastern has yet to lose a doubles match this spring. At No. 2, freshmen
Sarah Kriem and
Reginka Nychytailova overwhelmed ASU's Arielle Buchman and Chan Rutherford, 8-2, improving to 2-0 this spring. Senior

Adriana Castillo closed out the point for the Lions with an 8-5 win over Merlin Tipp and Kate Potapora.
Three Lion singles players remained undefeated in singles play. On the No. 2 court, freshman
Nastya Tokareva ran her team-best singles mark to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Viktoria Kozachuk. Kriem (3-0) made short work of Tipp, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, while Brito (3-0) took care of Potapora, 6-3, 6-1 at the bottom of the singles draw.
Nychytailova and junior
Valya Rusakova both improved to 4-1 in singles play with straights set wins at the top half of the lineup. On the No. 1 court, Kersten Vanem was no match for Nychytailova in a 6-4, 7-6 defeat. Rusakova continues to impress in her first season with the Lions, cruising past Buchman, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.
The lone three set match came at No. 5. Southeastern sophomore
Morgane Charpenne outlasted ASU's Aakansaa Punt, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3, to run her 2013 spring singles mark to 2-1.
Southeastern will open its 2013 home schedule on Saturday, hosting William Carey for a 1 p.m. match at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
