Southeastern Moves to 12-0 With 4-3 Win Over Youngstown State

Unbeaten Lions hosts Virginia Tech on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana freshman Nastya Tokareva, freshman Renee Villarreal and senior Isabel Brito all remained undefeated in singles play, as the Lion tennis team protected its unbeaten record with a 4-3 win over Youngstown State on Tuesday evening at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
Southeastern (12-0) was able to maintain its perfect record by taking the doubles point and splitting the six doubles matches. Youngstown State dropped to 7-6 overall with the loss.
 
The day opened up with the Lions posting a pair of convincing doubles wins. At No. 2, Tokareva and junior Valya Rusakova (4-1) blanked YSU's Annina Brendel and Carolyn Jesko. The No. 3 Southeastern team of Villarreal and sophomore Adriana Castillo ran their team-best doubles mark to 9-0 with an 8-2 win over Lauren Hankle and Paula de Man.
 
Youngstown State tested the Lions in singles play with wins on the No. 1, 3 and 4 courts. At No. 2, Tokareva (12-0) outlasted Margarita Sadovnikova, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Villarreal (10-0) was too much for Hankle at No. 5, while Brito (9-0) picked up a straight set victory of her own – 6-4, 7-5 over Brendel on the No. 6 court.
 
No. 63 Virginia Tech (10-2) visits on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match. Southeastern students will receive free food at Wednesday's match courtesy of Southeastern Athletics.
