Hymel Named Southland Pitcher Of The Week

Haag earns honorable mention for hitter of the week

Jordan Hymel was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana left-handed pitcher Jordan Hymel and Central Arkansas outfielder Forrestt Allday and have been named the Southland Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Tuesday.

It is the third honor of the week for Hymel, as he was also named the Louisiana Pitcher of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Hymel's tossed the fifth no-hitter in Southeastern history. It is the first since the school moved to NCAA Division I in 1981, as the Lions completed a series sweep of Texas Southern with the 9-0 victory on Sunday.

The senior from Gramercy, La. (Lutcher H.S.), walked six and hit a batter, but struck out seven en route to pitching his first career complete game. He is 1-1 in three starts this year. Southeastern Louisiana improved to 8-2 on the season with the sweep of the Tigers.

Postgame research uncovered a no-hitter by former Lion Bill Lukawecki on April 24, 1949, against Louisiana Tech.

Allday repeats as the conference hitter of the week following another stellar week that saw him go 11 for 20 (.580) with eight RBI and eight runs scored. He leads the league in batting average (.500), hits (25), RBI (15), runs scored (18), total bases (34) stolen bases (7 of 8), on-base percentage (.567) and slugging percentage (.680). UCA leads the Southland with an 11-1 overall record.

Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore outfielder Kyle Danford, Sam Houston State sophomore shortstop Carter Burgess, Southeastern junior first baseman Aaron Haag and Lamar junior shortstop Sam Bumpers. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to McNeese State senior right-hander Blake Ware, Nicholls State senior right-hander Kory Delange and Oral Roberts junior right-hander Alex Gonzalez.

Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
